Did you know that the governor declared June “Arkansas Blackberry Month”?
Why not celebrate Arkansas Blackberry Month by trying out one of our Blackberry Caribbean “boozy” Pedal Pops? With this being the month designated to celebrate blackberries, and coincidentally the month we are debuting our “boozy” pops at the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market, there is no better time to enjoy this delicious frozen fruit bar.
Our Blackberry Caribbean’s ingredients include: pineapple, mango, blackberry, sugar and spiced rum. We locally source our blackberries from Neal Family Farms in Rogers, AR. The blackberries add a slightly sour note to the tropical taste of the pineapple mango. This is one of Mike’s favorite pops and we hope it may become one of your favorites, too.
You may not know that the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station released its sixth primocane-fruiting blackberry variety earlier this year. NWAonline.com explains, “Prime-Ark Horizon (the new version) is noted for high yields and an extended primocane fruiting season.”
KTLO.com explains, “Dr. John Clark, a University of Arkansas Distinguished Professor of Horticulture who leads the team there, is a celebrity in the world of fruit production…He has spent his career producing better blackberries, such as the thornless Prime Ark Traveler, which is easy on pickers’ hands.” According to KTLO, Dr. Clark, in conjunction with Dr. Margaret Worthington, created and introduced a new variety of blackberry that have thornless plants and grow attractive blackberries that “taste better, stay firm and resist disease.” They named the variety Ponca.
Lucky for you, there is no need to pick your own blackberries! You can find delicious local berries at the Fayetteville Farmers’ Market. While you are at the market, you can also purchase one of our boozy pops. If you’d like to purchase one, stop by the Farmers’ Market each Saturday from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm. We’ll be selling our boozy pops at the market on a trial basis for the next month. Choose from Blackberry Caribbean, Mango Cayenne Margarita, Old Fashioned or Peach Bellini. You can always pick up your favorite, or try something new, by purchasing directly from us at our Farmington Kitchen, 169 W Main Street, Farmington.
Feel free to call ahead to the store when we are open, 12-6 pm Wednesday-Sunday (404-290-1916) and we’ll be happy to put together your order to pick up when you get here. Don’t forget, when you choose our boozy pops, you will enjoy a taste sensation you are sure to love AND you’ll have a great excuse not to share with the kids!
